In the Internet marketing space, especially where SEO is concerned, there is an incredible amount of dissention between what is considered ethical and acceptable marketing practice. For this reason, we feel that it is important to clearly disclose our philosophy on Internet marketing ethics.
- In simple terms, Northcutt strives to conduct exclusively what is known as "white hat SEO" (opposed to "black hat SEO"). This practice aims to align our services with the wishes of search engine quality engineers as much as possible. We believe that doing so preserves an honorable reputation for our clients, and preserves rankings even as search engines continue to improve at web spam recognition.
- Northcutt will never hide anything from a search engine, a practice known in the SEO industry as "cloaking" (including, but not limited to, stuffing excessive keywords into image alt and meta tags, hiding keywords in matching background/foreground text, JavaScript redirects, or any other method of showing the user and search engine differing content).
- When building links to your site(s), Northcutt strives never to spam. We define the former statement as doing anything that would not be desired by owner of the site where a backlink is placed. It is also our aim to never do anything that could potentially cause harm to our clients, either currently, or as the result of future advancements in search engine quality technologies.
- When building links, Northcutt will always first provide a conceptual explanation of what we intend to do. By transparently disclosing our link building methods beforehand, it is our aim to assure that our clients are also never presented in a manner that they do not wish.
- We strive for permanent, lasting success. While we are ultimately at the mercy of the originating website's owner, all backlinks that Northcutt builds are intended to be permanent. It is our company policy, which is unique from many in the SEO industry, to never rent backlinks.
- It is our aim to never draw out an SEO campaign longer than is necessary. Once a campaign to rank on a set of certain phrases appears to be drawing to a close, we will typically propose a fresh set of new, also relevant variations on a client's search terms where we can achieve new rankings.
- While our process does include the submission of information to various directories and other varieties of site, we stand firmly by our Privacy Policy. Before service begins, we will outline exactly what information should be disclosed as public contact data, and what is private, and respect these guidelines.
